Educational toys
Buying educational toys
can be kind of confusing. There are so many different kinds of toys
available, that it can be difficult to know which toys are best for
children. Some of the things a person buying educational toys should
consider include:
• Labeled stages – Many educational toys include labels
on them that let the buyer know the age range for which the toy has
been created. It is best to find toys that force a child to step out
of his comfort zone, but not be so difficult that he or she simply gets
frustrated and gives up. It is not typically wise to buy educational
toys that do not challenge a child because they will quickly become
bored with these types of toys.
• Staggered development – It is best to look for educational
toys that cater to the development stage in which the child is at the
time of purchase. For example, children learn how to use their hands
well before they learn how to use their feet well. If a child has not
yet learned to use his or her hands, it is best to not buy something
that focuses on how they use their feet. Buy educational toys for the
hands first, then buy for the feet.
• Multiple skills – Instead of buying educational toys that
focus on only one skill, perhaps it would be better to find toys that
focus on a myriad of skills. This means that a toy can challenge a child’s
motor skills, reasoning skills and cognitive development skills. These
are the most cost effective educational toys for parents to buy.
