Outdoor toys
Outdoor toys are great at helping children have an opportunity
to get outside of the home and play. The fact is that things like hundreds
of channels on TV, games on the computer and video game consoles in
the living room have helped contribute to childhood obesity.
Children today are much heavier and in much worse shape than children
were even as recently as a decade ago. Comparing children now to children
30-40 years ago shows an even starker contrast in health.
One of the best ways a parent can encourage a child to play outdoors
is to buy outdoor toys. Some of the outdoor toys a child will likely
want to use include:
• Swing sets – A swing set is one of the classic outdoor
toys. Despite this, kids still love using them. Swing sets have evolved
over the years. Whereas swing sets a couple of decades ago were almost
always made of aluminum, many of the nicer swing sets now are made from
wood. The very nice swing sets also include plastic slides and other
features like sandboxes, monkey bars and mini climbing walls. However,
aluminum swing sets can still be purchased for a smaller price.
• Zip lines – A backyard that has two large trees is a great
place to use a zip line. A zip line is one of the outdoor toys that
will not only make a child get into his own backyard, but they also
will make the neighborhood kids want to come over and play.
