A person who is interested in finding and identifying antique train toys can do so by knowing what the important features to look for on a train are. Some of the things a person should do include:

• Get a guide – There are publications that can be used as guides to the different kinds of train toys that have been made. This guide will be the main reference source for any person who is trying to identify different kinds of antique trains.

• Track width is telling – Few people know that the width of the train track can actually give away some information about how old the train is. The width between the rails is different in older trains than it is now. Sometimes the wheel alignment of the train can also be a telling sign.

• Compare – If some train toys cannot exactly be found in the guide, hope is not lost. There are certain characteristics that some antique trains share because they are manufactured by the same company. Look for these similar characteristics and a person should be able to understand more about what he or she needs to look into in order to find an exact match.

• Read up – Trying to understand everything that needs to be understood about train toys can be difficult for a person who has no background in antique trains to do. However, a person can have a better idea of how he or she can find the right train if he or she simply will do a little reading on the subject before starting the search for train toys.
